The Newcastle Lions Club prides itself on reaching out to those in need. But while community service is a focus point of the club’s objectives, nothing can be done without its members working closely together.
On Friday night, July 27, the Lions Club gathered at Newcastle Club for its year end function. An event dedicated to looking at all the club has achieved over the past year. Projects during the 2017/2018 year include a diabetes walk, Operation Brightsight, the annual Lions Club golf day and wine auction.

Reflecting on the past year, the club awarded its members for the roles they played. The Lions of the Year are Lize Smith and Nicolette Baney. Courtney Smith was nominated as Stirrer of the year.
The incoming officers for the upcoming year are Zarina Luck as president, Nicolette Baney as secetary, Lize Smith as treasurer and Courtney Smith as the membership chairperson. Eleanor Merrifield is the media PRO, while Kay Keene is the service chairperson. Chey and Laura Hunter are the Lion tamer/tail twister.

With the night focusing on the good the club has done and is planning to do, there was also a social aspect. Following a year’s worth of good deeds, the members enjoyed a night of socialising and good food, as they prepare for the upcoming year of community service.
