Lions Club joins forces with Pick n Pay and Food Forward SA for charity

Dedicated to the upliftment of those in need, the Newcastle Lions Club defied Saturday’s cold weather for Mandela Day.

Standing at Hutten Heights Pick n Pay, Pioneer Park Pick n Pay and Scott Street Pick n Pay, the Lions Club joined forces with Food Forward SA and Pick n Pay to collect food for the under privileged.

“There are so many people going without the necessities. Some people cannot even afford to buy blankets this winter,” explains Zarina Luck, chairperson of Newcastle Lions Club.

Despite the cold weather conditions, the warmth shown by compassionate Newcastillians, was astounding. With scores of shoppers donating to the initiative, the day was an overwhelming success.

Newcastle Lions Club will donate the items to beneficiaries on Wednesday, July 18. “On behalf of the Lions Club, I want to thank everyone who gave, both big and small. Every bit will make a difference. I also want to thank the Pick n Pay stores and their management, as well as the volunteers,” concluded Luck.

Well done Newcastle from all of us at the Newcastillian!
