An overwhelming stench fills the air on Hardick Street, near the Kirkland Street intersection. Pools of water forming on the sidewalk, while a discusting stream flows down the road.
Motorists rapidly closing their car’s windows, whilst pedestrians are forced to cross the road or gag through the rancid smell of sewage. For several days, sewage has been flowing freely on Hardwick Street.
Motorists forced to drive through the fetid streams. Pedestrians facing a horrid health risk. But what is being done about the leak?
Each passing day, the pools on the sidewalk grow larger. The stream of sewage flowing down the road gushes into the storm water drains.
While the matter has been a matter of concern, it seems the Newcastle Municipality is ready to resolve the issue.
Newcastle Municipality’s Head of Communications, Dr Dumisani Thabethe explains the matter is through a blockage. “We have appointed a contractor to unblock it. They should be there anytime,” he assures the community.

Seems this is a repetitive blockage. Been happening for years. Why are permanent solutions not done.
