A total of 60 determined participants flocked to the shooting range, united in their mission.

They were not there to partake in traditional Women’s Day activities; they were there to shatter stereotypes and take control of their safety. In a world where women are now seizing the reins of their protection, a mere tea party would have been an insult. This was the time to rise, to learn, and to take the next crucial step towards empowerment through firearms training.

Lynn Ragunanan of the Newcastle Shooting Club expressed the significance of the day, stating, “The day was a celebration, teaching women to use firearms safely and create awareness on the importance of using a gun in the correct way and time.” Her words echoed the sentiment of the event, where the focus was not just on handling firearms, but on cultivating the strength and confidence to stand tall in the face of adversity.

The event brought together women from all walks of life, united by a common purpose. Organisers and 20 dedicated helpers guided these women through the use of shotguns, .22 rifles, .22 handguns, and even a 223, among others.

It was a day of transformation, where these women discovered that they were fully capable of defending themselves, without reliance on anyone else.

Furthermore, Ragunanan observed the remarkable growth in confidence among many of the participants, as they realised they did not need men to protect them during times of crisis. This day had not only equipped them with practical skills but also ignited a newfound passion within many. Some participants left with a burning desire to hone their skills further, preparing to embark on a journey where they would harness and develop this newly discovered strength.

It was a day where women came together to celebrate their strength, their independence, and their right to protect themselves. Rugunanan extended a heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors and guests who made the day a remarkable experience.
