This impressive recovery unfolded after law enforcement received intelligence about a hijacked truck transporting the valuable metal.

The truck had been hijacked in Volksrust by two to three suspects, prompting immediate action from the Newcastle SAPS, Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team, Zultrack, and Barnard Security.

According to Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team member, Imran Ghafoor, the truck was tracked down to a business premises situated on Marconi Drive, Riverside Industrial. “The suspects travelled on the N11 and then went into the Industrial area to drop off the Ferromanganese,” he explained.

Thanks to solid coordination and thorough investigations, law enforcement located the truck on Marconi Drive and recovered the stolen magnesium, which was returned to its rightful owner.

However, Ghafoor noted, “The suspects, unfortunately, managed to escape, but law enforcement is tracking them down.”

Newcastle SAPS Spokesperson, Lizzy Arumugam, confirmed that further police investigations into the crime were underway. Additionally, Marius Smith of Barnard Security assured the community, “We are all here to fight crime together.”

The recovery of the hijacked truck and the stolen metal highlights the dedication and effectiveness of Newcastle’s law enforcement agencies.
