An urgent plea for assistance in locating missing Newcastle resident Jonah Moothilal, who disappeared on Sunday night, 7 July 2024, went viral on Monday, 8 July 2024. However, the search for Jonah Moothilal has come to a tragic end.
According to posts circulating on social media, Jonah Moothilal was believed to have been on his way home to Newcastle in a blue BMW X5 that he had acquired in Volksrust.
It is suspected that he was hijacked during his journey home, sparking concerns when attempts to contact him were unsuccessful due to his phone being switched off.
Despite the community’s efforts to find him safely, the search for Jonah Moothilal ended in heartbreak when his body was discovered in Charlestown.
Moreover, Warrant Officer Khoza of Charlestown SAPS confirmed that Moothilal was found in Charlestown, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. “The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation. We are aware of the social media reports, but these need to be verified.”
Warrant Officer Khoza further explained that Charlestown SAPS has opened a murder case and launched an investigation to apprehend those responsible. Therefore, anyone with information is urged to contact either Newcastle or Charlestown SAPS urgently to assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
