A male lion has reportedly been sighted on a farm located near the Dundee turnoff. Additionally, according to an official police source, the lion’s tracks were discovered on Sunday, near a small body of water on the farm, by the farmer himself.
“Hair from the lion’s mane was also found in nearby bushes, and judging by the prints and the height of the branches where the hair was found, it is a large male lion,” explained a police spokesperson.
The source further revealed that one of the farm’s employees confessed to witnessing the lion roaming the area before. As of now, there have been no reports of livestock falling victim to the apex predator.
Furthermore, Newcastillian News contacted Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to establish if they were aware of any lions on the loose in the area. Musa Mntambo, spokesperson for the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, stated that Dundee-based Ezemvelo officials were not aware of any lions in the area.
Nevertheless, the police source did explain that cameras would be set up around the farm to determine if the lion has remained in the area so that it can be tracked and taken to a place of safety.
Residents are urged to promptly report any sightings of the predator to law enforcement and to avoid attempting to track it themselves.
