This determination was put into action with the Amajuba District SAPS executing a High Intensity Operation within the Newcastle Policing area on Sunday, 6 August 2023.

The operation was orchestrated with the sole objective of identifying and curbing illegal activities, subsequently bringing the wrongdoers to justice.

The operation commenced at 4 pm on Sunday afternoon in Lennoxton and Siyahlala-la Informal Settlement, as the SAPS collaborated with key partners, including the Newcastle Community Policing Forum, Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team, and Optimus Protection Services. Their concerted efforts were aimed at maximising coverage and impact, in line with their shared commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the community.

Detailing the outcomes of the operation, Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team reported that two individuals were apprehended after being found in possession of a combined total of 15 mandrax tablets.

A third individual was discovered carrying nine parcels of Crystal Meth, along with 15 mandrax tablets and a weighing scale.

Ghafoor also highlighted the seizure of multiple dangerous weapons during the operation, underscoring the necessity of this proactive approach to ensure public safety and the maintenance of law and order within the town.
