In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in a notorious crime syndicate responsible for a string of frauds, thefts, and a daring business break-in across the Newcastle and Howick regions.

The suspects, comprising two men and two women, were taken into custody by the vigilant efforts of the Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team, Newcastle Detectives, and Optimus Protection Services.
The joint operation led to their arrest in Newcastle’s bustling Central Business District (CBD) on separate days – three suspects on July 20, 2023, and the fourth suspect on July 21, 2023.
The crime spree began with the group’s execution of fraudulent schemes at local stores. They would load a shopping cart with various items while surreptitiously pocketing additional goods. At the checkout, they would feign forgetfulness and claim to have left their cards and cash in their vehicle parked outside. Seizing the opportunity, they would make a hasty getaway with the stolen merchandise.
Their criminal activities escalated when they targeted a popular hotel in Newcastle. After booking a room, the suspects brazenly broke into another guest’s room, making off with a cache of valuable electronic devices.
Following intensive investigations and cooperation between the agencies involved, crucial intelligence was gathered, linking the four suspects to another related case in Howick.
In Howick, the group had ordered items from a local business, only to flee in a waiting getaway car after collecting the goods.
Imran Ghafoor, a key member of the Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team, shed light on the arrest and the suspects’ modus operandi regarding the business fraud and theft. He urged anyone who may have fallen victim to these nefarious activities to come forward and report their experiences.
