In a united effort to combat crime within the community, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has joined forces with security companies and local crime fighters in Newcastle, effectively putting the criminal element in the crosshairs.
This collaborative approach aims to eradicate criminal activities and create a safer environment for residents.
The Amajuba District SAPS recently carried out a comprehensive two day operation in Madadeni and Newcastle, signalling a strong message of zero tolerance towards criminal behaviour.
Imran Ghafoor, a member of the Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team, shed light on the operation’s details, stating that it commenced on Saturday, 8 July 2023, in Madadeni. Joining forces with the Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team and Optimus Protection Services, the SAPS embarked on an intensive crackdown.
During the operation’s first night, Ghafoor revealed that four individuals were apprehended for possessing an array of illicit substances, including crystal meth, whoonga and cough syrup which is used to get high. The swift actions of law enforcement resulted in removing these harmful drugs from circulation and protecting the community from their destructive influence.
Continuing their efforts on Sunday, 9 July 2023, the law enforcement team moved on to Newcastle, where they successfully detained two illegal immigrants.
Additionally, two more individuals were arrested for drug possession, further disrupting the criminal networks operating within the area.
Highlighting another significant achievement, Ghafoor mentioned that the Newcastle K9 unit apprehended a suspect for drug possession and seized a substantial quantity of 84 Mandrax tablets, contributing to the ongoing efforts to curb drug related crimes.
Assuring the community of their commitment to prioritising their safety, Ghafoor emphasised the collaboration between the SAPS, security companies, and crime fighters.
By working hand in hand, these entities aim to protect the best interests of residents and create a community free from the grip of criminal elements.
