Animal cruelty has once again shocked the public as two kittens were discovered tied to a train carriage in a pillowcase in an incident on Monday, April 10, 2023, just after midnight.
The Newcastle SPCA received a distressing call from a Transnet staff member who found the kittens, approximately seven-months-old, in a pillowcase that had been tied with a shoe lace and attached to the outside of the train carriage.
Heather Gero, the spokesperson for Newcastle SPCA, expressed her shock at the cruel act, stating, “The train had travelled all the way from Isipingo and finally stopped here in Newcastle where the poor kittens were finally discovered. They were wet, cold and extremely terrified after this ordeal.”
The man who found the kittens brought them to the Newcastle SPCA where they are now safe and warm, awaiting adoption.
Gero urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and report it to the SPCA, assuring that all complaints would be kept strictly confidential.
This appalling act of animal cruelty highlights the need for continued vigilance and action against such heinous acts. Animals deserve to be treated with kindness and respect, and it is the responsibility of society to ensure their protection.
The Newcastle SPCA and other animal welfare organisations work tirelessly to rescue and care for animals in need, but it is crucial for the community to come together and take action against animal cruelty in all its forms.
