“The IFP is securing substantial ground in Northern KwaZulu-Natal,” declares party

“The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is securing substantial ground in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, especially in the Amajuba District,” said the party following its recent by-election win in Ward 12 of the Dannhauser Municipality.

Cllr Cindy Mbali Fortunate Maphisa secured the win for the IFP, further strengthening the party’s hold in the district.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) confirmed the IFP’s win, stating that “the party won the seat previously occupied by an Independent Candidate with 52.17% of the total votes cast, compared to 30.01% votes previously won by an Independent Candidate during the 2021 Municipal elections.”

The IFP celebrated its victory, saying “IFP’s victory in Dannhauser increases the Party’s seats from eight to nine in the 25-seat Council. The IFP is currently in control of the Municipality with the support of other parties in the Council. This victory further strengthens the support of the IFP in Amajuba District.”

The party also noted that Newcastle Municipality and eMadlangeni (Utrecht) Municipality form part of the Amajuba District, and both are being led by the IFP. The political party currently has control of the district municipality as well.

The IFP sees its win as a sign of growing support as the country moves towards the 2024 Provincial and National elections. “The IFP is thankful to the people of Dannhauser – and the entire province – for the ever-growing support that is being shown to the Party,” said the political party.
