In a recent statement, Mediclinic stated that it fully understands that family and friends play a vital role in the healing process. Therefore, Mediclinic Newcastle has revised its visiting hours so that family members can continue to engage with and visit their loved ones.

Chief Clinical Officer for Mediclinic Southern Africa, Dr Gerrit de Villiers, says, “We believe that the safety of patients and staff is of the utmost importance and that the revised visitor measures will limit the risk of infection for our patients. This decision will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary.”

The updated visiting hours for Mediclinic Newcastle are as follows:

  • One visitor at a time will continue to have access to non-COVID-19 patients between 10 am and 7 pm daily.
  • Two 30 minutes sessions will be allowed for COVID-19 patients in the general wards, with two 15-minute sessions for patients in ICU with prior arrangements with the nursing team.
  • Visiting arrangements for the NICU, Obstetrics and Paediatric units have not changed.
  • The Emergency Centre at Mediclinic Newcastle will continue to allow one visitor to accompany a patient into the examination area at all times.

Dr de Villiers emphasises that Mediclinic will continue to encourage engagement with family and friends via electronic communication channels to encourage the vital support these relationships provide in the healing process.
