Ladysmith flooded and more rain expected. Here is the weather update

Torrential rains have flooded Ladysmith’s roads. Because of the flooding, motorists are advised to avoid Queen Street and Lyell Street until further notice.

Additionally, the flooding has affected the entrance to Ladysmith from the N11.

The flooding follows a Yellow Level 2 warning issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on Tuesday, 11 January 2022. SAWS issued a statement warning of potential flooding in KwaZulu-Natal.

While SAPS officers were spotted in flood-affected areas monitoring the situation, KZN residents are warned that the rains are far from over.

Further rain is expected in the following towns on Wednesday, 12 January 2022, according to SAWS:

  • Newcastle
  • Utrecht
  • Ladysmith
  • Underberg
  • Kokstad
  • Giants Castle

With more inclement weather forecasted for Wednesday, Newcastillians are advised to exercise caution when travelling.
