Mediclinic Newcastle COVID-19 vaccination centre will be closing on 29 October 2021. This is due to persistently low levels of demand.
Dr Gerrit de Villiers, Chief Clinical Officer for Mediclinic Southern Africa, says, “This decision was made after careful consideration and based on logistical implications. Mediclinic is cognisant of the expiry of vaccines, and that these remain precious resources.”
Additionally, the number of vaccination centres now available throughout the community was taken into account.
“We believe that by centralising vaccines at specific points within the community during these periods of low demand, we can reduce the potential wastage of vaccines that may result.”
If the demand for vaccination increases, Mediclinic Southern Africa’s decision will be reconsidered.
Dr de Villiers highlights, “Mediclinic continues to unequivocally support the vaccination process based on evidence-led research around current vaccines, which provides a strong indication of the dramatic impact the vaccine offers as protection against severe illness and the risk of death.”
Furthermore, he emphasises that Mediclinic Southern Africa encourages the community to take advantage of the opportunity to vaccinate and protect themselves before the expected fourth wave arrives.
“Mediclinic Newcastle vaccination centre is proud to have assisted more than 3 000 individuals with their vaccine, as we firmly believe that vaccination is our best shot at a healthy future”.
