Mediclinic Newcastle has achieved a noteworthy milestone in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the quest to combat disease, promoting health, and servicing the community.
The private hospital’s Patient Experience Manager, Nondumiso Mbhele, highlights that Mediclinic Newcastle has successfully vaccinated 1000 community members in a short space of time. “This means that we have achieved the first milestone for our COVID-19 Vaccination Station amidst vaccine hesitancy.”
As Mediclinic Newcastle celebrates this milestone with Roxanne Singh, the hospital’s 1000th vaccinee; Mbhele emphasises, “We are thankful that Mrs Singh chose our vaccination centre for her best shot, which is a vital step in our way out of the pandemic. I am incredibly proud of all the young and old Newcastillians who have been vaccinated. We look forward to sharing more exciting news about our vaccination centre.”
Speaking to Roxanne Singh, she explained that the experience of receiving the vaccine was both overwhelming and fun.
“I was initially scared, as with most people, it was the fear of the unknown. I did not know what to expect, what side effects I would experience and then there was all the hearsay.”
While stating that these are thoughts that plague everyone, creating a degree of uncertainty, Roxanne emphasises that the experience did not fit in with her or other people’s fears. “It was not as bad as you might think. Everyone should get their vaccine, so you can protect yourself and others.”
Roxanne’s fears were alleviated through the Mediclinic Newcastle staff, whom she describes as absolute darlings. “They were helpful and supportive, giving me as much information as possible and they made the process relaxing, putting my fears at ease.”
Not only did the Mediclinic Newcastle staff put her mind at peace, but she also says the entire process of being vaccinated was a matter of minutes. This, Roxanne explains, is thanks to the booking system the private hospital has in place.
Mediclinic currently operates more than 30 COVID-19 vaccination centres across South Africa, providing access to eligible public members who still require the vaccine.
In addition, accessing a vaccine has now become more accessible, with the launch of the Mediclinic Vaccination Booking portal – allowing direct access to bookings at any of these facilities.
A list of facilities and the specific vaccine being offered are available on the Mediclinic website or via direct link.
