The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has dismissed two officials from Ncome Correctional Facility in KwaZulu-Natal following a sex tape involving a correctional officer and an inmate being posted on social media in March 2021.

DCS explains the correctional official in the video and her colleague who permitted the use of her office for the sexual act were dismissed. This outcome emanates from a disciplinary process put into action after the incident. The Department points out the inmate involved was shown no quarter with him now reclassified into the Maximum category. This, and his privileges have been removed along with being moved to another facility.

Following the decision, the Department stated, “As the DCS assured the nation in March 2021 that it was probing the matter, it needed to move with speed, following the prescribed processes in ensuring that the incident was investigated fully and appropriate corrective measures taken.” Additionally, the Department of Correctional Services wants to reiterate that coitus (sex) acts and other forms of sexual attachment or illicit romance between officials and inmates will never be tolerated. In a statement, it emphasises, “The code of conduct is explicit in this regard and those found to have breached this barrier shall face the consequences. DCS will not hesitate to act against any form of transgressions.”

In conclusion, the Department states that correctional officials must be exemplary, not only to inmates but also to the broader society.
