Accident on N11 sees 15 people rushed to hospital

Emergency personnel rushed to a chaotic scene today, 29 December 2020, following 15 people sustaining injuries after a minibus overturned.

Offering some insight, Jan-Henk van Vuuren of WATCO Emergency Services explains the incident took place on the R34, between the N11 and Utrecht this afternoon. “When emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the occupants of the minibus in the veld around the vehicle. Most of them were ejected when the minibus overturned.”

A passenger seated at the back of the vehicle was trapped and had to be extricated by local fire and rescue services.

Moreover, Van Vuuren explained, of the 15 passengers, two sustained serious injuries and the rest moderate to minor injuries. Among the injured were a baby and two young children. They were all rushed to Madadeni Hospital for further care.

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear and will be investigated by the South African Police Services.
