The sound of music reverberates through the parking lot at Newcastle Corner, as Newcastillians unite for a worthy cause.
On Saturday, September 21, Planet Fitness hosted its annual Spring Fling. An event which stands for more than just welcoming the warm, spring season.
Neil van Rooyen explained while the event was aimed at having fun and focusing on fitness, this year’s Spring Fling was a charity event in aid of Morester Children’s Home.
He added that all Planet Fitness asked for an entrance fee, was that everyone who attended was encouraged to bring a donation in the form of canned foods, groceries, toiletries, toys, clothing or anything else which will benefit the children of the home.
Alternatively, people could also make a cash donation, which was payable online via www.foreverleavingalegacy.co.za

The day proved to be a massive success with Newcastillians, both Planet Fitness members and non-members rising to the occasion.
“We had about 200 people attending and in terms of donations, we managed to collect two shopping trolleys full of canned foods, toiletries, toys and clothing for the children,” Neil says.
On behalf of Morester Children’s Home, Belinda Ellor says the home and the children truly appreciate the effort Neil and his team put into the event, as well as the community members who supported the initiative.
“We really appreciate that Neil and Planet Fitness went the extra mile to raise awareness for Morester Children’s Home and to collect the donations. We appreciate everyone’s support.”
With the gym and fitness enthusiasts sacrificing their Saturday morning for a worthy cause, they truly celebrated the dawn of spring in style.
