Dubbed the Rainbow Nation, South Africa is a country made up of diverse people hailing from an array of cultures.
As South Africans find themselves embracing each other’s cultures daily, there is one day which sees us as South Africans celebrate our cultural diversity. Heritage Day, September 24, is a public holiday where people are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the range of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.
On Friday, September 20, St Dominics Newcastle celebrated Heritage Day early. The learners wearing a wide range of different cultural clothing and enjoying a day which focused on learning and embracing other’s cultures.
The learners were also able to enjoy entertainment, with songs and dance provided on the day. The entertainment saw Zulu songs, Afrikaans songs, a fan dance from the Taiwanese and Chinese learners, an Indian dance, as well as poetry.
With a vibrant atmosphere prevailing over St Dominics Newcastle, the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
