Contenders reel in the win during second league of VME Angling League

The second round of the VME League held at Richgate on September 1 proved to be a moment of sweet revenge for Ladysmith Angling Club.

Ladysmith AC trounced their opponents in style by scoring 60 points. They were followed by a distant Breakwaters team on 24 points; Challengers and Dannhauser tied on 21 points and Stillwaters on 16 points. 

The turnout was excellent as four of the six clubs fielded full teams of 25 members each. The VME league currently sees Ladysmith AC in the lead with 22 points; followed by Breakwaters AC on 22pts; Dannhauser on 15 points; Challengers on 13 points, while both Stillwaters and Glencoe tied on six points each.  

Ahmed Amedjee of Dannhauser AC landed a monstrous carp, which tipped the scale at 4,742kg, putting himself in contention to win the incentive prize of R500, while Leon Ramparsad of Ladysmith AC caught a sizeable Barbel of 6,018kg on a carp trace.  Both fish were safely released. 

Veteran angler, Dan Govender scooped the “angler of the day” title with eight points, winning R200, the purple cap and an outright trophy. 

The overall leader of the APL donning the “green” cap is Ronnie Rampersadh of Breakwaters AC on nine points; followed by Sudesh Singh of LAC on nine points and his teammate, Leon Ramparsad on nine points as well.  

Titleholders thus far are Ahmed Amedjee of Dannhuaser AC with the title for Heaviest Carp; Leon Ramparsad of Ladysmith AC with the Heaviest Non Scaled Fish; Talia Boodhoo of Stillwaters AC with the title of Junior Angler of the Year; Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwater AC with the title of Lady Angler of Year and Ronnie Rampersadh of Breakwaters AC with the title for Senior Angler and Angler of the Year title.

The next competition of the APL will be League 3 at Sandford on October 20.
