Magical worlds and imagination intertwine as books draw people away from their daily lives. New experiences, knowledge and valuable lessons, hidden within the pages of structured words.
The author, George R.R. Martin once said, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only once.” His words resonating truth as a book transports a reader to an entirely new world.
With books and reading playing an instrumental role in our development, World Literacy Day is celebrated annually on September 8. This is a day which aims to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
In the build-up to the day, St Dominics Newcastle designated Friday, August 30, as an opportunity for learners to dress up as their favourite fictional characters.
With the learners embracing the chance to dress up as their favourite characters, the school came alive with colourful characters. From characters found in horror novels, fantasy books and comics, the learners truly took advantage of the day to show how much wonder can be found in the pages of a good book.
Well done to all the students and educators at St Dominics Newcastle, everyone looked amazing.
