Top comedian, Karou Charou prepares to bring the house down in NN

Come see Issue 17 of the Newcastillian – Online Magazine!

A comedy show of epic proportions is heading to Newcastle, with the iconic Karou Charou set to perform on September 7.

Since establishing a name for himself in the comedy world, Karou Charou has proven to be no ordinary comedian.

Where it’s normal for comics to saunter on stage, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, he dances onto the stage in his trademark sunglasses, flamboyant outfits and sparkling bling.

When most Indian comics were too afraid to use profanity on stage, Karou Charou let the “f” bombs fly. When talking sex on stage was considered taboo, he did exactly that. He doesn’t subscribe to the norms. He is the enigmatic and charismatic Karou Charou.

In the 10 years since his debut, Karou Charou has risen to become one of the most commercially successful comics on the SA Circuit, with a string of sold-out shows across the country.

He was the first solo Indian performer to sell out at the prestigious 1200-seater Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City. He also holds the record for 35 sold-out shows at Sibaya Casino and becoming the first Indian comic to feature in Zimbabwe and Botswana.

His popularity was recognised by the international brand of McDonald’s, who handpicked him to be the face of their Spicy Burger campaign which included two television ads, a cinema ad, as well as his image on street billboards across the country.

Karou Charou has also acquired the status of becoming an international artist when he became the first South African comic to perform three shows in three cities across Australia (Perth, Sydney and Brisbane).

The secret to Karou’s success is his vibrant and dynamic style. A style which often sees him leave the comfort of the stage, to engage in unscripted yet hilarious banter with the audience. Audiences also love the fact that they can easily relate to his comic tales.

The show will see the “turbaned one” perform some of his best material from his various shows over the past 10 years. Among other things, he will reveal why most Indians can’t swim, why Indians choose not to play rugby and how Indians put the “fun” in funerals. He will also explore Indian weddings and aim to explain why marriage “is just not normal.”

With this being a family show Karou has an entire segment where he invites kids on stage to have fun with him. Then there is the finale segment which can only be described as a “hoe down”.

Be sure not to miss out on his side-splitting hilarious show on September 7, which will take place at Style & Grace Wedding and Conference Venue. The show will start at 7.30 pm.

Tickets are available at Maharanis Indian takeaway, Style & Grace Wedding and Conference Venue, as well as Quicket. The ticket price is R120 until September 1 and thereafter, the ticket prices will cost R150.
