The melodic sound of choir music is one that captivates a music lover’s soul and imagination.
On August 18, Arbor Park Primary School, Newcastle Senior Primary, Drakensberg Primary and Bergville Primary School participated in Sing in Harmonie on kykNet.
Sing in Harmonie is a school choir competition, which sees schools around South Africa compete against each other while performing on national TV.
Within the competition, there are two divisions, namely the junior choir (Grade 1 to Grade 3) and the senior choir (Grade 4 to Grade 7).
As various schools enter the popular competition, it is a great privilege to see choirs from Northern KwaZulu-Natal participate.
Both Arbor Park Primary’s junior and senior choirs performed exceptionally well and will be making their way to the finals, which will be held in Gold Reef City.
Leonor Boshoff of Arbor Park Primary says the school is extremely pleased about this accomplishment. “This is the second year which Arbor Park Primary has participated in Sing in Harmonie and last year, only the junior choir made it to the finals.”
Antoinette Spies of Newcastle Senior Primary explains the school’s choir will also be making its way to the finals in Gold Reef City.
“NSPS has participated in the Sing in Harmonie Competition for the third time this year. Each year since 2017, our school has made it to the finals. In 2017, we won the category: Beste Nie -Afrikaanse Lied Trophy and the second-place overall trophy. In 2018 we won the: Beste Nie-Afrikaanse Lied trophy again.”
Gil Green of Bergville Primary explains that while Bergville Primary did not get selected for the finals, it proved to be a great learning experience.
“Our senior choir entered, and the choir’s performance was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We received some good reviews.”
Drakensberg Primary School is no stranger to the Sing in Harmonie and has proven to be a formidable force in the competition.
“Our senior choir has made it to the finals, and we are excited to see how the choir does at the finals in Gold Reef City,” beams Stephani Truter of Drakensberg Primary School.
Well done to all the participating schools and the best of luck to those who are making their way to the finals.
