Newcastle Lions Club is an organisation which prides itself on helping those in need. Showing compassion to those whose plight often goes unnoticed.
Throughout the years, the Newcastle Lions Club has assisted organisations such as Morester Children’s Home and the SPCA, as well as local feeding schemes based at Newcastle schools.
Working alongside the respective Non-Governmental Organisations and Non-Profit Organisations within Newcastle, the Lions Club strives to make a positive impact on the lives of those who truly need help.
Such is the club’s passion for the community, it is also part of the Lions Operation Brightsight project.
Lions Operation Brightsight, is part of Lions International, which provides less fortunate people with the opportunity to see clearly by assisting them in obtaining spectacles.
However, as dedicated as Newcastle Lions Club is in assisting the needy within Newcastle, it cannot do so without the support of the community.
To raise funds for its various projects, Newcastle Lions Club will be hosting its annual Lions Charity Golf Day.
Set to take place at Newcastle Golf Club on September 28, the event is one that will leave a positive mark on the lives of those in need.
“Events such as our golf day are important to support, as it allows us to continue helping organisations within the town,” says Chey Hunter of Newcastle Lions Clubs.
With the entrance fee set at R220 per person, Lize Smith adds that the monies raised will be ploughed back into the community. Thereby ensuring the needy are cared for.
As Lize and Chey hope for a fairway full of golfers, they are looking at respective businesses for sponsorship. This will add to the day’s success, ensuring both participants and the less fortunate remember the day for years to come.
As Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get. But we make a life by what we give.”
