A night of glitz, glamour and promise awaited 16 young women on Saturday night, July 20, at Richview Civic Hall.

Waiting to take to the stage under the glare of bright lights, loud music and admiring glances from the audience, the 16 young women were about to step up as finalists for the 21st annual Zee TV Miss India NKZN.

With a great deal of hype surrounding the event, the girls were set to take centre stage. Proudly showing off their stylish attire and talents. Setting their sights on the title and determined to make it to the next level of the popular pageant.

As this was the first time the event was held in Newcastle, the pageant was welcomed by Newcastillians. Especially with local beauties taking up the spot as finalists in the pageant.

Much to the delight of guests, Akeera Rajaram Maniram was crowned the winner of the event, with Newcastle’s very own Sharnè Dheochand clinching the title of first princess and Renisha Autar taking the title of the second princess.

“The Miss India NKZN pageant was an event not to be missed. Many girls won special awards and I am immensely happy with the outcome and pleased with the winners,” says Vimmi Ramdaas, the organiser for the event.

“This has been such an incredible experience, as I have met so many new people. Being crowned the first princess is a great accomplishment for me, as I worked extremely hard and gave my all in this pageant. I can’t wait to take the next step towards the Nationals at Miss India SA,” says Sharnè.

Furthermore, she thanks her parents and her sponsors for their continuous support.

With her sights set on the future, Sharnè says she wishes her fellow finalists, Akeera and Renisha all the best for the upcoming national pageant.

“I believe in the three Cs in life. These are, make the Choice to take Chances to make the Change,” she says.

Vimmi explains the top three will now represent NKZN in the national pageant, Miss India SA. This will take place in December and will either be held in Johannesburg or Durban.

Congratulations to the top three and all the participants.
