The cries of children filled the air, leaving many an adult with their hearts broken and a tear in their eye.

The Department of Social Development removing children from Morester Children’s Home, ignoring their pleas to stay in the only place they felt safe. This is an incident which Newcastillians are fully aware of, following the traumatic event which took place earlier this year.

While the children are back in the care of Morester Children’s Home, the home still requires the assistance of the community. Stepping up to the challenge is Planet Fitness, who is joining forces with Leaving a Legacy.

Come September 7, Planet Fitness will be hosting its annual Spring Fling. An initiative which is dedicated to fitness and the community.

“The Spring Fling takes place on the first Saturday of September, where we take all our classes outside the club to welcome the start of spring,” says Neil van Rooyen of Planet Fitness.

With last year’s event proving to be a success, Neil says this year, the Planet Fitness team decided to dedicate the event to a charitable cause.

“We are asking members to make a pledge of R100, which will go directly towards Leaving a Legacy and the proof of payment will act as the entrance fee.”

Furthermore, Neil says he is also encouraging the community to donate food, clothes, toys and bicycles to the cause.

“We want the children to experience their childhood to the fullest, as there are certain things they are missing out on.”

The event is set to start at 7 am and will continue until 11 am outside Planet Fitness at Newcastle Corner.

Marianka Knox of Newcastle Corner says the complex is excited about the upcoming event.

“Opportunities are endless and that’s why businesses can help children in need, to make them feel safe, secure and having a purpose in life,” Marianka says.

Excited about the upcoming event, Leaving a Legacy representative Susan Pitout says she is elated that Newcastle Corner and its business partners are coming on board to support the worthy initiative.

“On behalf of Leaving a Legacy, we would also like to thank the Newcastle Corner and its business partners for sponsoring vouchers towards the day. We are also excited about the exposure for both Leaving a Legacy and Morester Children’s Home,” says Susan.

On the day of the event, Susan says some of the children from the home will be in attendance.

“It will be like one big family and a celebration. As springs dawns, so will a new era dawn on Morester Children’s Home,” concludes Susan.
