Newcastillian – Online Magazine! The loved change in media, within NKZN

If you want to meet a true Newcastillian who is literally ensuring the smiles of locals, then look no further. Dr Navindra Raman is a dentist with 23 years experience. Whose love for his career is only surpassed by his passion for his patients.

Situated in Paterson Street, Dr Raman explains that his love for dentistry is more than ensuring oral care is maintained.

“I initially took up dentistry as I am a people’s person, and this is a part of the medical field in which I can work with people daily,” he says.

Furthermore, Dr Raman says dentistry is anything but monotonous or boring. “No two cases are the same and the challenges which dentists face gives me an adrenaline rush. Some of the challenges faced by dentists are the patients’ expectations and the limitations we sometimes have to work through.”

Some of these limitations, Dr Raman explains, comes via medical aids who allegedly attempt to dictate on how dentists should treat patients.

Overall, in an era where people focus on their physical health, Dr Raman says not enough emphasis is put on dental health.

“People are often too scared of experiencing pain and avoid visiting their dentists for a check-up. Then there is the economical factor, where people do not give enough to maintain oral health.”

While these are two of the key factors on why people avoid dentists, Dr Raman says he always does his best to ensure his patients receive the best possible care.

“For me, dentistry is not about financial gain. My goal is seeing to my patients’ needs and satisfying their respective requirements. I also see what treatment plan is the right course of action for them.”

Dr Navindra Raman and his team are at the ready to put a smile on your face.

“What drives me most, is my love for my career and I am happiest when I am in surgery. One of my biggest joys are my patients’ smiles after restoring their oral health. For me, it is more than aesthetics, it is about helping improve the function of one’s mouth.”

With a deep-seated love for dentistry, oral health and restoring his patients smiles, Dr Navindra Raman is a true pillar within Newcastle’s medical world and community.
