On June 20, officers from the Normandien SAPS, who fall under the Amajuba Cluster, recovered stolen livestock to the value of R100 000.
This comes after they were driving to Newcastle and discovered cows grazing near the Newcastle SAPS precinct. The cows in question were stolen from a farm in Normandien between June 18 and June 19.
Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube says the owner of the cattle was notified immediately and was able to identify them. “This is because he complies with the laws governing livestock. As all the recovered cattle are clearly branded,” says Captain Ncube.
However, out of the 10 cattle stolen from the owner’s land, only nine are now in the owner’s possession. A case is open at Newcastle SAPS. “A docket is assigned to the Newcastle Stock Theft Unit. An appeal now goes out to the community to assist in locating the remaining cow which is missing.”
No arrests have yet been made in the matter and Captain Ncube says further investigations are currently underway. Anyone with information can contact the Newcastle SAPS.
Captain Ncube further encourages livestock owners to comply with livestock branding or face the full might of the law.
Well done to the officers for locating nine of the 10 missing cattle.
