Embarking on a brand-new adventure, scores of children began their school careers today, January 9. Finally, the time has arrived to join big school.
Going to Grade 1 is an exciting time for children. Offering children, the opportunity to meet new friends, learn new things and to officially begin their academic careers. It is also a time filled with mixed emotions, as children find themselves in a new environment, bidding farewell to pre-school.

Moms, dads and grandparents saw their little ones off today at Drakensberg Primary School. Smiles and excitement surging through the school grounds. Hidden tears of pride filling parents’ eyes, as they see their babies bracing to take on the education world.
The brand-new Grade 1s putting on a brave face, tears of uncertainty held back as they sit at their desks. The time is here, and they are ready for fun and to take the academic world by storm.
The Newcastillian wishes all the Grade 1s and their parents’ good luck, and all the best for the academic year ahead. May the next 12 years be filled with a sense of excitement and academic purpose.
