Starting primary school is an exciting experience for children and parents alike. For children, it is the start of “big school” and new beginnings. For parents, it is seeing our little ones get started on a journey which will mould their future.

Marking the transition from Grade R to Grade 1, St Dominics Newcastle Pre-School held a special day for its Grade R learners on November 21.

Jenna McGee of St Dominics Newcastle explains the school hosts a tea party for the learners. “It is a celebration for both the learners and their parents before the children go off to ‘big school.’

But parents and learners weren’t just treated to tea, juice and eats. Parents and grandparents also had the opportunity to watch their children perform a series of songs, dance routines and poetry.

“We also gave children swimming certificates for their progress during the year. And we made the children time capsules, which they will open at the end of high school,” Miss McGee explains.
