Newcastle Harriers participate in Kaapsehoop Marathon

The Newcastle Harriers Club is truly going the distance, taking part in marathons both in Newcastle and around South Africa.

The club entered 22 runners into the Kaapsehoop Marathon, which took place in Nelspruit on November 3. Kaapsehoop Marathon is divided into three divisions, 42.2km, 21.1km and 10km. With the runners putting their running abilities to the test, the 42.2km division is also a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon.

The Newcastle Harriers Club performed exceptionally well in the marathon, its runners proving their worth.

Newcastle Harriers clinched the following times for the 42.2km division:

Hlobi Madida finished with a time of 3:36:58 and she qualifies for the Comrades Marathon.

Jo Claassen completed the division with a time of 3:47:26 and she also qualifies for the Comrades Marathon.

Fritz Olivier did the run with a time of 3:49:05 and qualifies for the Comrades Marathon.

Vernon van der Merwe completed the run with a time of 4:22:57 and qualifies for the Comrades Marathon.

Allan Villiers scooped a time of 4:38:14, also qualifying for the Comrades Marathon.

Marius Jooste qualifies for the Comrades Marathon, after finishing the division with a time of 4:40:55.

Annelie Hiscock clocked a time of 4:47:19. Followed by Christo Hiscock with a time of 4:47:20. Both runners qualify for the Comrades Marathon.

Chantel van der Merwe finished the division with a time of 4:48:47 and qualifies for the Comrades Marathon.

JP Hiscock did the run with a time of 4:51:12, followed by Alistair James with a time of 4:59:45.

Mario and Renata Kahts finished the division with a time of 5:18:01.

Alta van Schalkwyk of ArcelorMittal Saldanha finished the run with a time of 4:40:55, qualifying for the Comrades Marathon.

Alet Le Roux of Team Vitality qualifies for the Comrades Marathon after she scooped a time of 4:48:47.

The times for the 21.1km division are as follows:

Tielman Roos finished with a time of 1:58:07, followed by Andre Vosloo with a time of 2:20:23. Andre and Elsa Grundlingh complete the run with a time of 3:02:51.

The times for the 10km division are as follows:

Vicky Olivier finished with a time of 1:04:12, followed by Atwee Swanepoel with a time of 1:40:18.
