Nedbank Newcastle is more than a financial institution. It is a bank who cares about its clients and the community as a whole.
On Saturday, September 29, Nedbank donated a soccer kit to the staff of Siyambili Worker’s Contract.
“The majority of the staff come from the Eastern Cape, while the others hail from Newcastle, Madadeni and Normandien,” explains Xolisile Lunga, the owner of the company. He explains the men are currently camping in tents on Normandien farms while working on a contracting project.
“To keep themselves busy and healthy, the men enjoy playing soccer. As a Nedbank client, I approached the bank and asked if it was possible for them to donate a kit.”
As a community driven branch, the management started looking into ways as to supply the team with a soccer kit. The uniforms would not only allow the staff a sense of belonging but allow them to compete against local soccer teams.

“The bottom line is, at Nedbank we don’t just provide financial services. We have a passion and desire to do good. We are working tirelessly to deliver the things that really matter to our clients, our country and our continent,” says Mobile Sales Manager, Pinkie Mofu.
The team is ecstatic about the sponsorship. “I want to thank Nedbank for their efforts. I really did not expect it and the soccer kit means a lot to me and the team.”
However, Mpofu says this sponsorship is truly about helping others.
“Nelson Mandela once said, What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made in the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead,” Mpofu concludes.
The Siyamibili Worker’s Contract staff can now face future matches as a true team, sporting their brand new kits.
