SAPS confiscate over 200 mandrax tablets

Drug dealers are feeling the pinch, with police clamping down on their shady business deals.

On August 25 and August 26, oSizweni Policing Area with the Newcastle Cluster Task Team and oSizweni Crime Prevention Unit followed up on drug related cases in oSizweni and Blaaubosh.

During the two days, the police hauled in 10 suspects, the youngest being 15 years old and the oldest being 39 years old. A staggering 25 mandrax tablets, six half mandrax tablet, two quarter mandrax tablets and a substantial amount of dagga were recovered.

The drugs recovered have an estimate street value of approximately R60 000. The suspects will now appear at the Madadeni Magistrate Court.

In a separate incident, oSizweni Policing Area worked closely with Newcastle POP Unit on August 27. Following up on information, the two police units proceeded to two homes in oSizweni, Section B. At the homes, the SAPS recovered dry loose dagga in three plastic bags.

 With two suspects now in custody, they will now appear at Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.

In a third incident, Madadeni Crime Prevention Relief B members came across a suspicious looking man in Section 2. In his possession were six full mandrax tablets, three half mandrax tablets and one quarter mandrax tablet.

While the arrests of the above-mentioned cases play an important role in creating a drug free society, these are not the biggest arrests. Madadeni Crime Prevention Relief A were recently on duty in Section 2, Madadeni.

Patrolling the area, the officers noticed a suspicious individual and decided to search him. In his pants’ waistband was a popcorn 50g bag with 200 full mandrax tablets. He is in police custody and further police investigations are underway.
