SAPS clamping down on crime

When it comes to the pursuit of justice, the SAPS is leaving no stone unturned. Cracking down on the criminal element, local law enforcement is determined to make our community a safer place.

Police are currently working on several cases, investigating the dastardly deeds of local villains. Here are the latest crimes that the SAPS are looking into.

Drug Busts

Newcastle Crime Prevention (B Group) arrested a man for Mandrax possession. The arrest was made during a stop and search operation in Lennoxton, when the man was found with 20 Mandrax tablets. The tablets have an estimated street value of R1 000.

In a separate incident, oSizweni Policing area joined forces with the Newcastle Task Team, Newcastle Public Policing Unit, oSizweni Detectives and oSizweni Crime Prevention members. Following up on a tip-off, the police officials descended on an oSizweni household. While searching the house, a 40-year-old man was found with dagga to the estimated street value of R1 800. He was promptly arrested.

In the third incident, a man was arrested after he was found with two large bags of dagga. According to the SAPS Communications Department, the confiscated dagga has an estimated street value of R2 500.

Robberies

Newcastle Detectives are investigating a case of robbery in Harding Street. According to the victim, she was accosted by a group of women. Armed with knives, the women made off with the victim’s cellphone and cash.

In another case, a woman’s cellphone was stolen while she was walking along Scott Street.

The suspects in both incidents fled the scene, thus far evading arrest. However, police are investigating the robberies.

Murder

Madadeni SAPS are investigating a murder case, following an incident that took place at Nxumalo Stand in Blaauwbosch.

According to Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, the victim’s seven-year-old daughter found her mother’s body. Her body in a pool of blood. After finding her mother, the child ran to a neighbour for help.

Police responded and found the weapon still embedded in her neck. The motive for the murder is unclear and the suspect is still at large. Police investigations are now underway.
