Newcastle, oSizweni and Madadeni SAPS are cracking down on criminal activity, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.
One arrested for dagga possession
During an intelligence driven operation on January 26, a 62-year-old man was arrested for dagga possession.
The arrest was made by the oSizweni Policing Area, Newcastle Task Team and Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unity.
According to the Newcastle SAPS Communication Department, the arrest was made following a tip off where dagga was being sold.
After searching the said-house, the illegal drug was found in a plastic container.
Robbery
Newcastle SAPS are currently investigating a case of common robbery, following an incident that took place on January 24.
According to the Newcastle SAPS Communications Department, a man was walking along Samson Street, Barry Hertzog Park, when he was approached by two men.
The suspects stole his cellphone and cash, before fleeing.
In another incident, three men were robbed by knifepoint in Sunnyridge.
Allegedly, they were approached by two men who proceeded to threaten them.
The suspects managed to acquire the victims cellphones before escaping.
In yet another incident, a man was targeted by three men while walking behind the Farmers Hall.
Allegedly, the victim was robbed at knifepoint.
His cellphone and money was taken.
Police are conducting further investigations into the three incidents.
Theft out of a motor vehicle
One man is in police custody after he broke into a motorist’s car.
The incident took place in Harding Street, when the motorist noticed an individual breaking into his car.
He managed to catch the culprit, before notifying the police who arrested him.
Attempted murder
Newcastle police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
On Friday, January 26, a man allegedly hit an ex-employee with an iron rod.
According to the Newcastle SAPS Communications Department, the victim was collecting his wages in Draper Street, Lennoxton, when the assault took place.
While police investigations are underway, no arrests have yet been made.
