Newcastle crime briefs, what crimes have affected our residents
Despite Newcastillians enjoying the recent holidays, easing back into their regular routines this past week, it seems the criminal element has not taken time off.
The following crimes took place over the past two weeks.

Theft from a business
Newcastle SAPS are currently investigating a case of burglary.
This follows an incident where a security guard caught an individual attempting to steal a door on January 1.
According to Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, the guard was stationed at a construction site in Lennoxton when he caught the perpetrator attempting to escape with the door.
Shoplifting
Newcastle police are investigating a case of shoplifting.
The incident tool place at a retailer in Scott Street, where the 43-year-old culprit attempted to walk out of the store without paying for any of the shopping items.
Bag snatching
A case of bag snatching was opened after her handbag was recently stolen in the parking area of Shoprtie Hyper.
The victim claimed she was walking in the parking lot when a strange man grabbed her bag, before dashing off.
Further investigations will be conducted.
Residential robbery turns violent
Newcastle police are currently investigating a case of robbery and murder.
The incident took place on January 5 in Pioneer Park.
According to Captain Ncube, the SAPS were made aware if the crime when the victim’s vehicle was found abandoned.
He explained that after the car was found, police officials went to the woman’s house to follow up and to determine what had happened.
Sadly, upon arriving at the home, the police discovered the resident had been killed and her home ransacked.

Attempted murder
A man was recently assaulted with a panga in Kilbarchan.
The victim had allegedly gone drinking when a man struck with the weapon, hitting him in the head.
The police were contacted and the suspect was apprehended.
Police investigations continue.
Robbery
A man was recently robbed of his cellphones while walking in Ncandu Park.
Captain Ncube explained the victim was accosted by two men armed with knives.
While the perpetrators managed to escape, the police are investigating the matter.
