Motorists are being urgently requested to avoid the R602 following an advisory. The warning, disseminated by Road Angels South Africa, details the collapse of a section of road between Glencoe and Elandslaagte, a development that has rendered this stretch of road hazardous and unusable.

The organisation has confirmed that the R602 toward Glencoe is now closed indefinitely, citing the risks posed by the structural failure.
As a practical alternative, motorists are directed to use the R68, accessible just past Sunset Rest, which provides a viable detour to Dundee. This rerouting aims to maintain connectivity while ensuring traveller safety amid the ongoing disruption.
With the affected section barricaded and traffic prohibited, Road Angels South Africa emphasised the gravity of compliance in their statement:
“For the risk of motorists’ lives and their passengers, and insurance purposes, do not go and open the road and remove the barrier tape, as it closed for a reason. Do not try to take chances, as it could cost people dearly.”

Given these developments, how do you view the implications of this road closure? Share your insights and opinions in the comment section below.

This is a tragic path and department of transport need to be held accountable as I have damaged my car on the almost horrible accident on Thursday the 10th April 2025 due to this collapse road. There was no road sign indicating danger ahead as the road permits the 100kmph speed. My car blew a samp immediately licked and seized engine now sitting with a possible engine replacement.
