Motorist dies in heartbreaking collision on N11

A sombre atmosphere descended on the N11, following a fatal collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and a truck on Wednesday morning, 30 October 2024.

An official source on the scene explained that the incident occurred shortly before 8 am, while the Polo’s motorist was travelling from Ingagane to Newcastle.

While the exact circumstances around the collision are unclear at this point, the source claimed, “The motorist was apparently driving to work, when it is speculated that she attempted to overtake another vehicle and crashed into the truck. She, unfortunately, passed away due to the extent of her injuries.”

Police officers, traffic officials, paramedics, and tow truck companies were on scene within minutes, hoping to save the motorist’s life, and to clear the area, control traffic, and launch police investigations into the matter to establish what had occurred.

As officials continued their work, a municipal employee, who opted to remain anonymous, stated that the woman had been with the Municipality for over 20 years, and those who knew her are left mourning this significant loss.

Newcastillian News reached out to the Newcastle Municipality for comment, but none could be provided at the time of publication.

Newcastillian News extends its heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Good Day , Please acknowledge the concerns in closure of town arterial root. What message is been sent out when you have a road closure during month end , no warning at beginning of ahead closure, hence causing chaos in u turns . Lack of planning is serious concern as law enforcement just stand and chat by themselves while motorists bare the branth.

A tragic incident that could have been avoided if the rules of the road had not been contravened.
