The event unfolded shortly after 11 am on the N11 route towards Volksrust.

According to an official source present at the scene, a cow, grazing nearby, suddenly bolted across the busy road. The motorist, caught by surprise, had no time to react. His bakkie collided with the large animal, and the force of the impact left his vehicle severely damaged and the cow dead.

Paramedics confirmed that the driver, though injured, suffered only minor injuries.

However, he was taken to hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment. His passenger, by a stroke of luck, escaped unscathed, though visibly shaken by the catastrophic crash that had just taken place.

As paramedics tended to the injured motorist, authorities urged fellow road users to exercise caution around livestock when travelling. Livestock owners have also been sternly warned to ensure their cattle are kept secure, preventing them from wandering into busy roads, and potentially causing more devastation.
