Rain and Cold: KZN towns to face extreme weather conditions

After a stretch of mild and pleasant weather, KwaZulu-Natal must brace for a significant shift as colder conditions settle in. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a critical weather advisory, warning residents of an impending cold front expected to bring extreme cold to the region on Thursday, 29 August 2024.

SAWS has alerted the public to the potential health risks associated with this cold snap, including the danger of cold-related illnesses such as hypothermia.

The severe drop in temperature could also pose a threat to livestock and the towns expected to bear the brunt of this cold front are:

  • Ladysmith
  • Estcourt
  • Richmond
  • Kokstad
  • Mooi River
  • Underberg
  • Pietermaritzburg

In addition to the chilling temperatures, parts of Northern KwaZulu-Natal can also anticipate rainfall. Towns that are likely to experience showers on Thursday include:

  • Newcastle
  • Vryheid
  • Ladysmith
  • Utrecht

With temperatures set to drop throughout the day, residents are strongly advised to bundle up and take necessary precautions against the cold. Stay warm, stay safe, and avoid unnecessary exposure to these harsh conditions.
