Assault on McIntosh Avenue, Newcastle: Young Man stabbed amid heated dispute

According to reports, on Saturday, 27 July 2024, a violent altercation on McIntosh Avenue in Pioneer Park, Newcastle resulted in a young man being assaulted and stabbed after a heated dispute with his girlfriend.

The incident started when the young man returned home with his girlfriend, and an argument broke out between them.

Police reports, as confirmed by Newcastle SAPS Spokesperson, Lizzy Arumugam, indicate that the argument escalated significantly, leading the young man’s mother to advise the girlfriend to contact her parents to pick her up and take her home

However, the situation escalated when the girlfriend’s mother allegedly arrived at the McIntosh Avenue residence, accompanied by ten men and three women. The group, according to reports, then attacked the young man, brutally assaulting him and stabbing him in the back before fleeing the scene. He was subsequently rushed to a local hospital, where he was admitted for his injuries.

Following the attack on her son, the young man’s mother contacted the Newcastle SAPS, who have now launched an attempted murder investigation.

Arumugam further stated, “No arrests have been made, and police investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
