According to an official notice from the Municipality, the electrical supply to Newcastle’s CBD’s Central A substation will be cut off on Wednesday, 31 July 2024.

The power outage is expected to hit businesses and residents from 8 am to 12 pm, leaving streets in the CBD, which include Scott Street, Murchison Street, and Kirkland Street, in darkness. There is also a significant risk of additional power trips throughout the area.

Following this, the Newcastle Municipality will initiate further critical repairs on Tuesday, 6 August 2024, causing another round of power cuts in parts of Riverside Industrial. Streets such as Stephenson Street, Edison Street, Marconi Street, and Rontgen Street will be affected.

Unfortunately, no specific timeframe has been provided for this disruption, leaving residents and businesses in the dark about when power will be restored, but the work is set to be completed on the same day.

Despite the expected interruptions, the Newcastle Municipality has issued a stern warning. All electrical installations and apparatus should be treated as live, and utmost caution is advised for everyone in these affected areas.
