This follows trouble beginning on Sunday evening, 21 July 2024, when a burst water pipe on Kameelperd Street in Ncandu Park forced the Newcastle Municipality to shut down the reservoir to address the problem.

This caused widespread water supply issues affecting Barry Hertzog Park, Pioneer Park, Amajuba Park, Sunnyridge, Ncandu Park, and parts of Hutten Heights.

Despite the Municipality’s efforts to work through the night, the situation continued into Monday, 22 July 2024. The situation worsened when Cllr Bertie Meiring reported another burst pipe, this time a 300mm pipe on Aquamarine Drive in Sunnyridge.

With the additional pipe burst and ongoing repairs in Kameelperd Park, Cllr Meiring stated that water from both affected areas was expected to be restored by Monday afternoon. However, he warned that some areas might still face water shortages or low pressure in the meantime. To assist, the Newcastle Municipality has dispatched water trucks to help affected residents.

As the Municipality continues to tackle these issues, residents are encouraged to report any water or sewage problems to 087 740 8839.
