Reflecting on the initiative, the Alfred Duma Municipality’s Communications Unit stated that as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment within uMnambithi, the Alfred Duma Local Municipality successfully launched the Street Sweeping Program.

This program falls under the Cleansing and Solid Waste section of the Community and Social Services department.

With the program successfully launched on Wednesday, 17 July 2024, under the leadership of Alfred Duma Municipality’s Mayor, Cllr Zama Sibisi, the Communications Unit said its dedicated team will now be working tirelessly to ensure that the streets of the municipality are free from litter, debris, and other obstructions.

“This initiative aims to improve the aesthetic appeal of our streets, promote community pride, and support local economic growth. Keeping our town clean will encourage investors to bring business into our town, leading to economic growth,” elaborated the Alfred Duma Municipality’s Communications Unit.

As per the Northern KwaZulu-Natal municipal entity, key highlights of the program include:

  • Regular street sweeping services
  • Litter collection and disposal
  • Cleaning of stormwater drains
  • Cleaning of concrete bins

As the Alfred Duma Municipality strives to enhance the cleanliness of the town, the Communications Unit noted, that the Alfred Duma Local Municipality is inviting the uMnambithi community to join and be a part of this initiative. This includes small actions such as disposing of waste properly, as well as reporting any illegal dumping and littering incidents. “Let’s work towards a cleaner and more vibrant community,” concluded the Alfred Duma Municipality’s Communications Unit.
