As the winter season continues, bringing chilly yet forceful winds, we must ask: how healthy are the dams across KwaZulu-Natal?

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has released its latest report on the state of the dams across the province.
While dams remain at healthy levels, some have seen slight drops in their water levels.
Here is a closer look at the DWS’s report on the dam levels:
- Albert Falls Dam has water levels at 94.5%, down from last week’s 95.1%.
- Bivane Dam remains steady at 100.3%.
- Craigie Burn Dam is currently at 99.8%, compared to last week’s 100%.
- Driel Barrage Dam has improved, rising from 101% last week to 105% this week.
- Goedertrouw Dam is at 93.5%, a slight drop from last week’s 93.8%.
- Hazelmere Dam has declined from 81.5% last week to 80.7% this week.
- Hluhluwe Dam is at 95.4%, down slightly from last week’s 96.1%.
- Inanda Dam is at 99.2% this week, compared to last week’s 99.6%.
- Klipfontein Dam has dropped from 90.5% last week to 88.9% this week.
- Mearns Dam remains healthy at 100.3%, a slight drop from last week’s 100.4%.
- Midmar Dam is at 93.7%, down from last week’s 94.4%.
- Nagle Dam has decreased slightly, from 89.3% last week to 88% this week.
- Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam is at 73%, down from last week’s 73.5%.
- Pongolapoort Dam is at 85.2%, slightly lower than last week’s 85.3%.
- Spioenkop Dam has dropped from 99.4% last week to 98.4% this week.
- Spring Grove Dam has declined from 91.2% last week to 89.3% this week.
- Wagendrift Dam remains healthy at 99.9%, down slightly from last week’s 100.1%.
- Woodstock Dam remains unchanged at 100.3%.
- Zaaihoek Dam remains steady at 90.6%.
