The weather service has alerted that strong, damaging winds are expected to persist over the north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, 4 July 2024, causing challenging driving conditions and localised damage to communities.

Additionally, SAWS has observed and predicted strong gusting winds from the West to North West over the north-western parts of KZN. These winds are expected to have average speeds of 30 to 40km/h, with gusts reaching 60 to 70km/h. Given the weather service’s warning, residents should be prepared for possible negative impacts due to these winds.

These impacts include:

  • Risk of localised runaway fires.
  • Localised damage to settlements and temporary structures.
  • Some transport routes and travel services may be affected by winds or falling trees.
  • Localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes, such as issues due to crosswinds on exposed high-level roads or bridges.

SAWS has highlighted that its warning for damaging winds specifically targets the following towns:

  • Newcastle
  • Ladysmith
  • Vryheid
  • Dannhauser
  • Indaka
  • Dundee
  • eDumbe
  • Utrecht
  • Estcourt
  • Sobabili
  • Msinga
  • Nquthu
  • Okhahlamba

With this in mind, SAWS has urged the public to take the necessary precautions while these strong winds persist. What are your thoughts on the above?

At least the public are being warned about possible damage unlike the useless amc government that fails to tell the public that their social engineering program is a failure
