A woman narrowly escaped with her life after being beaten and strangled on Hardwick Street, Newcastle, by a man she once trusted. Her survival is attributed to her strong will to live and the community’s intervention.

The incident unfolded on the afternoon of Saturday, 29 June 2024, while the woman was walking along the road. She encountered the suspect, a man she had allegedly been involved with.
The encounter escalated into an altercation, which then led to a violent assault
Despite people witnessing the violent crime, the man proceeded to viciously beat and strangle the woman. “She managed to escape by fighting back and getting assistance from nearby community members,” noted Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team member Imran Ghafoor. The traumatised woman then made her way to the Newcastle SAPS to report the incident.
Following her report, the Newcastle SAPS’s Stabilisation Unit and Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team immediately acted to locate the man, who had fled the scene after the attack. What happened next was rather unexpected.
“We received information that he was at a local clinic, and we immediately followed up. We found him at the clinic, where he claimed he had been injured during the incident with the woman. He was then taken into custody, detained at the Newcastle Police Station, and charged with attempted murder,” concluded Ghafoor.

As the man now faces attempted murder charges for attempting to strangle the woman and having to lick his wounds after the woman valiantly fought back, what are your thoughts on the above?
