The SAPS have launched an attempted murder investigation following an incident at the Amajuba District Municipality, where a woman was shot.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the District Municipality on 25 June 2024.
While the exact details around the incident are currently unclear, Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam provided some insights, explaining that the situation unfolded at approximately 5 pm.
Arumugam stated, “The complainant (victim) alleged she was at her place of work with her colleagues when the suspect came into the office to get a firearm out of the safe. The woman then heard a gunshot and realised she had been shot in the legs.”
The injured woman was rushed to hospital, where she was admitted and treated for her wounds. Arumugam added, “Police investigations into the matter are currently underway.”
It should be noted that the suspect was also working at the District Municipality, with an official police source claiming he worked at the government entity as a security guard.
As law enforcement works to establish the circumstances leading to the shooting, Newcastillian News reached out to the Amajuba District Municipality for an official comment. Unfortunately, the District Municipality could not provide a statement at the time of publication.

If you have any information that could assist the SAPS you are urged to contact them immediately.
