According to a notification from the Newcastle Municipality’s Communications Unit, uThukela Water will implement a planned shutdown of the Ntshingwayo raw water pipeline to the Ngagane Water Purification Plant on Wednesday.

This shutdown is crucial for addressing a leak in the raw water pipeline.

Therefore, the Newcastle Municipality and uThukela Water are informing the community that the pipeline will be completely isolated for the duration of the repairs, which are scheduled to begin at 6 am and continue until 4 pm.

During this period, raw water will still be supplied to the Water Purification Plant through the main Ntshingwayo pipeline, the Ngagane river pump station, and the Buffalo River pipeline. However, it is important to note that residents in Newcastle, Madadeni, Osizweni, Kilbarchan, the Alcockspruit area, as well as Ngagane and Indian Village, should prepare for potential water shortages.

Given the anticipated 10-hour disruption as vital repairs are conducted on the Ntshingwayo raw water pipeline, residents are strongly encouraged to make the necessary preparations in advance.

Mhhh,we don’t have water since last, but it’s this week that water supply will be interrupted? As Osizweni(ward 13) residents we didn’t have water coming out of our taps from February -May(four long and hard months without water)They only switched water on a day before election day.Now again we are finding ourselves being the first to be switched off water supply before the day of water interruption. What have we done to deserve this?Or will it end if they see people dying of dehydration. To be an Osizweni residents is a challenge.

Can the newcastillian asks Thukela Water of why the communities of Mndozo, Dicks, Manzana and Jakkalspan haven’t had water for a period of time now? We tried to survive a situation when water was rationed to four days per week but now we haven’t had water at all.
